SLOT LEADER / SCHEDULE 001

SLOT LEADER

FOR FOUR HUNDRED MILLISECONDS, ONE VOICE SPEAKS FOR THE NETWORK.

An experiment in taking turns, keeping time, and holding the microphone briefly.

BROADCAST CONTROL // LIVE TURN MONITOR TARGET: 400 MS
SCHEDULE STATUS PUBLISHED (EPOCH 001)
MICROPHONE PASSED → LEADER A
CURRENT TURN BRIEF (4 SLOTS)
NEXT TURN SOMEONE ELSE
* Visual illustration model. Not live validator infrastructure.
THE THESIS

SOMEBODY HAS TO GO FIRST.

If everyone speaks at once, nobody is heard. Networks solve this the way meetings, radio stations and railway junctions do: by agreeing in advance who goes when. The interesting part is not that someone leads. It is that the turn is short, known beforehand, and ends without asking permission.

ONE SLOT → ONE LEADER → NEXT
DETERMINISTIC SCHEDULE SIMULATOR

NAME SOME VALIDATORS. SEE WHO GETS THE MICROPHONE.

Input names, stake weights, and a seed text. Computes a real SHA-256 stake-weighted modulo distribution over 16 turns (64 slots) client-side.

64-SLOT TAPE (16 TURNS × 4 SLOTS)
STATUS: IDLE
TARGET: 400.00 MS
LAST TICK: -- MS
RUNNING AVG: -- MS
VALIDATOR STAKE SHARE SLOTS WON WIN SHARE

* Same names, same stakes, same seed: same schedule, every time. Change one character of the seed and it reshuffles.

This is a simplified model. Solana's real leader schedule uses its own stake-weighted sampling over actual validator stake per epoch. The names here are whatever you typed; they are not real validators. Everything runs client-side in your browser via Web Crypto API.

SYSTEM MECHANICS

A TURN HAS THREE PARTS.

How turn-based leader rotation works under fixed time limits.

01

THE SCHEDULE

Worked out ahead of each epoch from stake. Everyone can compute the exact same list independently.

02

THE SLOT

About 400 ms in which one leader orders transactions and broadcasts a block to the network.

03

THE HANDOFF

After four slots the turn moves on, whether the leader is ready or not. The clock never waits.

SCHEDULE + CLOCK → WHOSE TURN
ACCURACY NOTE: Being leader is not being in charge. The leader chooses what goes into its block and in what order, but it cannot make an invalid transaction valid, cannot sign for anyone else, and cannot finalise its own block; that takes votes from the rest of the validators. More stake means more turns on average, never a guaranteed one.

RULES OF THE BOOTH.

05. PASS IT ON.
